what to eat for beautiful skin

Updated: Jul 26, 2020

Just as everything else in our bodies, the things you consume reflect how you function, look, and feel! Skin, being the largest organ of the body is so important to keep healthy.

With this in mind, health on the inside reflects on the appearance of the skin. I used to have so many breakouts and not understand whether it was related to hormones, the spread of bacteria, my skincare routine, or if it was simply my diet. Turns out, adapting your body to different foods that promote skin health is the BIGGEST key to having clear skin! The digestive tract is directly correlated to the appearance of the skin, just as the foods we eat reflect on how we feel! And trust me, I KNOW it is a struggle to get on top of being good with the food we eat, but the results reflect our health and becomes so worth investing in.

Here are some healthy foods you can consume to ensure that you and your skin are in tact!

#1 Lemon Water

A glass of warm lemon water in the morning has amazing benefits for the skin.

These benefits are:

  • Vitamin C - which prevents the skin from aging, being over dry, and damage from the sun. A half of a lemon also has 90% of your daily vitamin C allowance so a glass in the morning will set you up for a great day!

  • Antioxidants - a glass of warm water with lemon gives the digestive track a cleaning and detoxes you from the inside out!

  • PH balance - a balanced PH for the body reduces inflammation. Inflammation means acne, and if the PH is unbalanced then it causes clogged pores making the skin breakout!

#2 Ginger

Benefits:

  • Reduces inflammation - ginger is another antioxidant used to reduce inflammation in the body, so this means clearing the skin of annoying breakouts!

  • Promotes gut health - many women struggle with gut health and ginger is known to calm the stomach and fight off bacteria entering the gut, which then reflects on the skin. Gut health is also directly related to hormones - which also cause breakouts.

  • Diminishes scars - ginger has been proven to soften the skin and even skin tone. Applying a homemade mask with ginger, lemon juice, and honey does a beautiful job of brightening and evening scars out. ✨

A few different ways to consume ginger are through; a supplement taken in the morning. But my favorite way to consume ginger is naturally just by cutting up fresh ginger and making ginger tea ☕️
